1. Who we are
NotchiDex is made by Technolans, an independent developer. In this policy "we" and "us" means Technolans. NotchiDex is distributed through the Microsoft Store, and this website is hosted at notchidex.pages.dev.
Questions about privacy go to technolnas.dev@gmail.com.
2. What the app reads on your PC
To do its job, NotchiDex reads a few things from Windows. All of it is processed on your computer, and none of it is sent anywhere.
| Now playing | Title, artist, artwork and playback position of the media Windows reports as playing (for example in Spotify or a browser tab), so the island can show it and control playback. | Not stored or logged |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | The system volume level and mute state, to show the volume bar and change the volume when you scroll over the island. | Not stored |
| Battery | Battery level, charging state and estimated time left, for the battery card and low-battery warning. | Not stored |
| Idle time | How long since the last keyboard or mouse input anywhere in Windows. Only the elapsed time is read, never which keys you press or where you click. Used to let Notchi nap and to time reminders. | Not stored |
| Fullscreen detection | The size, position, style and window class name of the window in front (for example a game's window class), to decide whether something is fullscreen so the island can hide. Window titles and contents are never read. | Class name may appear in local logs |
| Files on the shelf | The location (path) and name of files you drag onto the island, so you can drag them out again. The files themselves are never opened, copied or uploaded. | Stored on your PC until removed |
| Settings and progress | Your settings, Notchi's friendship level and cosmetics, and today's water count. | Stored on your PC |
| Diagnostic logs | Technical events such as start-up, errors, which view the island showed and, if diagnostics are on, memory and CPU use. No media titles, file contents or typed text. | Stored on your PC, 7 days |
3. What the app never does
- It never connects to the internet. There is no telemetry, crash upload, analytics or advertising code in the app.
- It never reads your clipboard, takes screenshots, or reads the contents or titles of other windows.
- It never uses your microphone, camera or location.
- It never records keystrokes. It only reads how long you have been idle.
- It never requires or asks for an account, email address or name.
- It never starts with Windows unless you switch that on in Settings.
4. Where your data is stored
Everything NotchiDex keeps (settings, progress, shelf file locations and logs) lives in the app's private folder inside your Windows user profile. Other user accounts on the PC can't see it.
Uninstalling NotchiDex removes the app and its private folder. If you used an earlier test build installed outside the Store, its data is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NotchiDex and you can delete that folder yourself.
5. Network, updates and the Microsoft Store
The app itself makes no network requests. Installation and updates are handled by the Microsoft Store, and the "Check for updates" button simply opens the Store.
When you install NotchiDex, Microsoft processes data about that installation (such as your Microsoft account and device) under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Microsoft gives developers aggregated reports, such as the number of installs and, depending on your Windows diagnostic settings, crash and reliability summaries. We do not receive your name or email address from a free download.
6. This website
notchidex.pages.dev is a static website hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
- No analytics, no cookies, no trackers, no ads. We don't run any analytics tools, and the site sets no cookies.
- No third-party requests. Fonts, images and scripts are all served from this site, so your browser doesn't contact other companies when you visit.
- Hosting. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. This is handled under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We don't use this information to identify visitors.
- The live demo on the home page runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you do in it is sent anywhere.
7. Feedback form and email
What the form collects
- The type of feedback you pick (bug, idea, something you like, other) and your message.
- Your email address, only if you choose to add it, so we can reply.
- Your Windows version and app version, only if you fill them in.
- The date and time it was sent.
We do not store your IP address with your feedback. Please don't include passwords or other sensitive personal information in your message.
How it's used and stored
Feedback is used only to fix bugs, improve NotchiDex and, if you gave an email address, reply to you. It is stored in a private Cloudflare database that only the developer can access. We never add your email to a mailing list or use it for marketing.
If you email us, we keep the conversation for as long as we need it to help you, and then delete it.
8. Paid licences in the future
NotchiDex is free during the beta, and the first 100 users keep it free forever. When paid licences start ($5, one time), payments will be handled by the Microsoft Store or a payment provider, and we will never see your full card details. We will update this policy, describing exactly what is collected for licensing, before paid licences go on sale.
9. Sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. The only companies involved are the service providers named above: Microsoft (the Store) and Cloudflare (website hosting and the feedback database). We would only disclose information if required by law.
10. Your choices and rights
- In the app: turn off the cat, reminders or any feature; remove files from the shelf; turn start-up with Windows on or off; open the data folder from Settings › About; uninstall to remove everything.
- Feedback you sent: ask us to show, correct or delete it by emailing technolnas.dev@gmail.com. Tell us roughly when you sent it, and the email address you used if you added one. We reply within 30 days.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We honour these requests for everyone, wherever they live.
Where the law requires a legal basis: we process feedback because you chose to send it (consent, which you can withdraw by asking us to delete it), and we operate the website on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing and securing it.
11. How long we keep things
| App data on your PC | Until you remove it or uninstall the app. Logs delete themselves after 7 days. | On your PC |
|---|---|---|
| Feedback messages | Up to 24 months, then deleted. Sooner if you ask. | Cloudflare D1 |
| Email conversations | As long as needed to help you. | Email inbox |
| Website hosting logs | Kept by Cloudflare under its own policy. We don't keep our own. | Cloudflare |
12. Security
The website and feedback form are served only over HTTPS. Feedback is stored in a private database that only the developer's account can access. On your PC, NotchiDex's data is protected by your Windows account like the rest of your files. No system is perfectly secure, but keeping almost everything on your own computer means there is very little for anyone else to lose.
13. Children
NotchiDex is suitable for everyone, and the app collects no personal information from anyone. The feedback form is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what the app or website collects (for example an optional online feature or paid licences), we will say exactly what is sent, why, where it goes, how long it's kept and how to turn it off, on this page and in the release notes, before the change ships.
